Riccardo Coletta, Project Manager, more than 15 years in managing international projects. He is experienced in working and teaching on the whole Project Cycle Management, including writing and submitting proposals and applications for International funding programmes with a focus on renewable energies. He is currently coordinating the Horizon Europe projects SUPERSHINE on energy efficiency for social housing and MARINEWIND on floating offshore wind technology. He coordinated the Xpress Horizon2020 project - “Support for Public Procurements to facilitate the collaboration between SMEs and public sector for the development and adoption in renewables in regions”.
International activities experience: Financial management of European projects in all the EU territory, IPA and ENI countries. Main tasks: coordination and management of international projects and consortium. Communication, training, stakeholders engagement and co-creation activities.

Average rating for the production of biogas from manure: 68,73.
Higher satisfaction levels were reported for the construction of plants at larger geographic scales.
Less satisfaction with the construction of a plant within 500m of their home and would require compensation in that case.
Support needs
Business support needs: access to finance, administrative support and support to overcome locals’ opposition.
Technical support needs: consultancy on implementation and monitoring of biogas solutions and assessment of the potential of biogas solutions.
Favourable conditions & enablers
Important factors for promoting the uptake of biogas technologies: public financial support schemes for biogas injection to the grid, direct financial support for farmers investing in biogas plants, and regulatory mandates on digestate processing and manure management.

Barriers
Technical barriers: lack of technical training and knowledge, lack of gas infrastructure, technical constraints, and lack of technical expertise.
Economic barriers: high investment costs, investment risk, and poor supply chain coordination.
Institutional barriers: complex administrative and legal procedures, unsupportive regulatory framework, and uncertain policy landscape.
Sociocultural-barriers: Lack of awareness by farmers and citizens, resistance to change, and low social acceptance.
Environmental side-effects: odour complaints, impact on food security, and impact on the climate.
Barriers for women to be engaged in the biogas sector: stereotypes about gender roles, less appealing to women jobs in the sector, and lack of women in decision-making positions.
