ALFA Project Concludes with Final Event and Policy Roundtable in Brussels, Belgium
Brussels, Belgium, 25 September 2025 – The EU-funded ALFA Project marked the successful conclusion of its three-year journey with a Final Event and Policy Roundtable, bringing together policymakers, researchers, industry experts, and stakeholders from across Europe’s biogas and livestock sectors.
Hosted at Comet Meetings – Louise in Brussels, the full-day event highlighted ALFA’s key achievements in supporting the uptake of biogas systems in livestock farming, while co-creating actionable policy roadmaps for the future of sustainable energy in agriculture.
Event Highlights
✅ A keynote address from the European Commission (DG ENER), setting the scene for the EU’s priorities on renewable energy and sustainable farming.
✅ Presentations of ALFA’s Decision Support Tool, success cases, and project outcomes, showcasing practical solutions for farmers and policymakers.
✅ A dynamic Policy Roundtable featuring experts, farmers, and policymakers, who collaboratively shaped recommendations to accelerate biogas adoption.
✅ Co-creation of policy pathways in breakout sessions, focusing on incentives, financing mechanisms, and public acceptance of biogas solutions.
With the project officially concluding in October, attention now turns to ensuring that ALFA’s policy recommendations are carried forward and translated into tangible action at the EU and regional levels.
Driving Biogas Adoption Across Europe
Over its three years, ALFA has developed tools, case studies, and guidance to help small-scale farmers integrate biogas systems, contributing to climate-neutral farming practices and rural energy resilience.
The Final Event highlighted the project’s dual outcomes: innovative digital tools and practical guidelines for replication on the ground, and evidence-based policy recommendations to support the EU’s renewable energy and climate goals.
“The ALFA project has shown that with the right mix of innovation, policy support, and local engagement, small-scale biogas systems can be a game-changer for European farmers”
