There are several types of subsidies and financial support measures for biogas production and biomethane upgrade throughout the EU. Some of these financial support schemes are at the EU level, while others are at Member State or regional level.
Types of financial incentives range from investment subsidies (for the capital invested), tax deductions, certificates for the amount of green energy produced or energy savings, etc.
In addition, some states have created their own regulatory frameworks for renewable energy or biofuels, while others do not yet have structured action plans to foster the biofuels sector, which hampered the development of the regional value chain.
