Successful ALFA Mutual Learning Workshop & Field Visit in Rome, Italy

15 April 2025 | Rome, Italy

The ALFA project, and APRE – Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea, successfully hosted a fruitful day of knowledge exchange and on-site learning in Rome on April 15th, bringing together stakeholders, experts, and biogas enthusiasts from across Europe.

🔹 Morning Workshop @ APRE Headquarters
Held at APRE’s central offices on Via Cavour 71, the morning session focused on the evolving landscape of the biogas and biomethane markets in Europe and Italy. Insightful presentations by the European Biogas Association, GSE (Gestore Servizi Energetici), and sector experts addressed key issues, including:
• The role of biogas in circular farming
Technological innovation in bioenergy
• The rise of energy communities in the green transition

The discussions sparked dynamic exchanges, emphasising the importance of collaboration and innovation for a sustainable energy future.

🔹 Afternoon Field Visit @ Caseificio Formaggi Boccea
Participants visited a pioneering small-scale biogas plant in the Roman countryside, which stands out for its unique use of milk waste (whey) instead of manure. The site, integrated with solar power and operating in close cooperation with local dairies, offered a real-life example of circular economy principles in action.

🚌 The day was complemented by group transport, a networking lunch, and valuable on-site discussions with plant operators and local stakeholders.

💬 A big thank you to all participants for making this Mutual Learning Workshop a success!
